Work experience / work placements

"I can’t get a job because I haven’t got enough / any experience – I can’t get the experience because I can’t get a job” Does this sound familiar?

We are keen to help if that is you! We have a really good relationship with a number of employers and could help you to get a work placement.

What can I expect from a work placement?

We have organised several successful work placements for young adults with hemiplegia, including in a HR office, in a fundraising office and in the kitchen at the Kensington Hilton.

We would assess what additional needs you might have (if any) and would ensure that any work placement worked for you and the employer. We would try to arrange these near to where you live and at a time that suits you.

Examples of other young people's experiences

This is what other people who have had a work placement said about their experience:

The interviewer was impressed that I had the work experience at the Hilton :)

I really appreciate this opportunity, what I learned from it and the experience of it. However I most enjoyed what it did for my confidence. Now I feel much more confident in my skills and abilities and know that I will be successful in finding sustained employment despite any physical problems I may face.

How do I join in?

if this is something you are interested in you can contact the team - support@hemihelp.org.uk / 0345 120 3713

If you are a parent of a young person and think that they would benefit from this you can also get in touch with us and we will try to help, but we will need commitment from the young person that they want to do this.
