Volunteering at HemiHelp - Gemma Robbins

Since I started volunteering with HemiHelp in February 2011, I have become involved in several projects for the charity. I am currently working on reviewing and reorganising the local group support system, which is shaping up to be quite a big task but one that I am very excited about! Gemma

Right now, I am getting in touch with local group coordinators, recruiting coordinators for counties where there are currently vacancies, and exploring the development of an information pack for new members.

My last assignment saw me working on a new handbook for the telephone helpline volunteers. I was encouraged to reorganise the text using previous documents as well as other resources and inserted new material that I felt would assist the helpliners in doing their job.

The HemiHelp staff are very supportive and encourage me to run with any ideas I have which I find a refreshing concept for a workplace! Working for a small charity has allowed me to gain experience in areas that I would not have for a larger organisation and I am thoroughly enjoying my time here!

How can I volunteer?
